Maya(现任社长,要毕业了) Jay(财务) You(竞选下一任社长)
Maya: Last item. Elections. Wei, you’re running for president?
You: I am. Do I go now?
Maya: You go now. Two minutes, then questions.
You: Okay. Hi everyone. I’m Wei, I’ve been in the club for a year.
Jay: We know who you are. Tell us what you’d do.
You: Fair. Three things. First, I want to fix attendance. We have forty members and twelve show up.
Maya: That’s the real problem.
You: Second, I want to do one big event per semester instead of four small ones.
Jay: Why? Big events are more work.
You: Because four small ones means four times the paperwork and nobody remembers them.
Jay: …That’s actually a good point.
You: Third, I want to get the budget request in early. This year we submitted late and got half.
Maya: That one’s on me. Learn from it.
You: That’s it. Three things.
Maya: Questions?
Ethan: What if people just don’t want to come? You can’t force attendance.
You: You can’t. But I think the issue is timing. We meet Thursday at eight. That’s the worst slot on campus.
Ethan: What would you change it to?
You: Tuesday at six, and I’d bring food. Free pizza gets people in the door.
Ethan: Okay. That’s a real answer.
Maya: Anyone else? …Then let’s vote. All in favor of Wei?
Jay: That’s everyone. Congratulations, president.
You: Thanks. I’ll need you as treasurer, Jay.
Jay: I was hoping you’d say that.

|---|---|---|
I will try my best to serve everyone. | 空话,美国人听了没信息 | Three things: attendance, one big event, early budget. |
Please support me, thank you very much. | 拉票式结尾,显得虚 | That's it. Three things. |
I promise to make our club great again. |
I have no experience but I am willing to learn. | 自贬 | I've been in the club a year; here's what I saw. |
You must come to meetings. | 命令 | Tuesday at six, and I'll bring food. |
Three things: A, B, C
2. All in favor?
举手或口头通过时说 All in favor,反对说 All opposed,弃权 Abstain。
3. That one's on me 是承担责任的说法。
Maya(前任社长,陪你一起去) Karen(学生活动办公室的协调员) You(新社长)
Karen: Hi, what can I do for you?
You: We want to book a room for an event on the eighteenth. A panel discussion.
Karen: Which club?
You: The International Students Association. We’re registered.
Karen: Let me pull you up. …Okay. How many people are you expecting?
You: Around sixty.
Karen: Sixty means you need a space with a sound system. The big seminar room holds eighty.
You: That works. Is it available on the eighteenth?
Karen: Evening or afternoon?
You: Evening. Seven to nine.
Karen: It’s open. Now — is there food?
You: We were thinking light refreshments. Cookies and coffee.
Karen: Then you need a food permit. Anything served on campus has to go through dining services.
You: Even cookies?
Karen: Even cookies. It’s a health code thing, not mine.
Maya: She’s right. We got caught on that last year.
You: Okay. How do we get the permit?
Karen: You order through dining services, and they deliver. It’s cheaper than you’d think.
You: Got it. Anything else?
Karen: Are you recording it?
You: We wanted to, for the club channel.
Karen: Then you need consent forms from everyone who speaks. I’ll email you the template.
You: Thanks. So: room, food permit, consent forms.
Karen: And submit all of it by the eleventh. We need a week to process.
You: The eleventh. We’ll have it in by then.
Karen: Good. You’re more organized than most.

|---|---|---|
We want to hold activity. | 缺冠词和具体信息 | We want to book a room for a panel discussion. |
Can we bring our own food? | 结果是要许可,但问法不完整 | Do we need a permit if we serve cookies? |
Is there any problem? | 太笼统 | Anything else we need to submit? |
We will prepare everything. | 空承诺 | We'll have it in by the eleventh. |
What is the rule? | 太宽 | What do we need for food and recording? |
We need a week to process
Rosa(本地餐馆老板,之前赞助过别的社团) You(社长,带着赞助方案) Maya(前任社长,给你做示范)
You: Hi, are you Rosa? I called about sponsoring our club event.
Rosa: I am. Sit down. What club again?
You: The International Students Association at the university.
Rosa: And what are you asking for?
You: Five hundred dollars. In exchange, we’d put your logo on all the event materials.
Rosa: Five hundred. What else?
You: We’d also give you a table at the event, and mention you in the opening.
Rosa: How many people come to this thing?
You: About sixty students. Mostly international, from twenty countries.
Rosa: Hmm. Sixty isn’t a lot for five hundred.
Maya: Can I jump in? What we’ve done for other sponsors is a discount night.
Rosa: Go on.
Maya: One night a month, our members eat here and get ten percent off. You get sixty people through the door on a Tuesday.
Rosa: Tuesday’s my slowest night. That’s actually interesting.
You: And it keeps going after the event. It’s not one-time.
Rosa: What do I need to do?
You: Put up one flyer, and honor the discount. We handle everything else.
Rosa: And the five hundred?
You: We’d take two fifty and put the rest into the discount night.
Rosa: Now you’re talking. Two fifty, and I want my logo on the flyer, not just the program.
You: Deal. I’ll send you the file to approve.
Rosa: Send it by Friday. And I want the discount night to be the first Tuesday.
You: First Tuesday. Done.
You: That went better than I planned.
Maya: You almost lost her at “five hundred for a logo.” Sponsors don’t buy logos. They buy customers.
You: Noted. That’s the whole lesson.

| Sixty isn’t a lot for five hundred. |
| Can I jump in? | |

| I’ll send you the file to approve. | | |
| Sponsors don’t buy logos. They buy customers.
|---|---|---|
Please sponsor us, we are a good club. | 只讲自己好,没有回报 | Five hundred, and your logo on all materials. |
We need money for our activity. | 开口就要钱,没有交换 | In exchange, we'd give you a table and a mention. |
Can you give us more? | 空要价 | We'd take two fifty and put the rest into the discount night. |
You will get many customers, I promise. | 空承诺,赞助商不信 | Sixty students, one night a month, on your slowest night. |
Thank you, we are very grateful. (收尾) | 可以,但不如推进 | I'll send you the file to approve by Friday. |
Sponsors don't buy logos. They buy customers.
We'd take two fifty and put the rest into the discount night
3. Now you're talking
That works、I can live with that。
Jay(财务) Ethan(新成员,答应了但没做) You(社长)
You: Okay, event’s in six days. Where are we?
Jay: Budget’s approved. Two fifty from Rosa, three hundred from student government.
You: Good. Maya, the flyer?
Maya: Sent to print yesterday. They’ll be here Thursday.
You: Ethan, the panelists?
Ethan: …Yeah, I’m working on it.
You: How many are confirmed?
Ethan: One. But I emailed four.
You: Emailed when?
Ethan: Last week.
You: And nobody replied? Let me see the email.
Ethan: …I drafted it but I didn’t send it.
You: Okay. That’s a problem, and I’d rather know now than Thursday.
Ethan: Sorry. I wasn’t sure how to word it.
Maya: You should’ve asked. That’s what we’re here for.
You: Right. Here’s what we’ll do. I’ll write the email tonight, and you send it from your account.
Ethan: Why my account?
You: Because you’re the panelist coordinator. It should come from you.
Ethan: Okay. I can do that.
You: And Ethan — if you get stuck again, just say so. Silence is the only thing that hurts us.
Ethan: Understood. I’ll send it tonight.
Jay: You handled that well. I would’ve been annoyed.
You: I am annoyed. But yelling doesn’t get the email sent.
Jay: True. That’s the difference between a president and a volunteer.
You: I’ll take that as a compliment.
|---|---|---|
| Where are we?
| Budget’s approved. | | |
| How many are confirmed? |
| Emailed when? | |
| I drafted it but I didn’t send it.
| I’d rather know now than Thursday. |
| I wasn’t sure how to word it.
| You should’ve asked. | | |
| Here’s what we’ll do.
| Silence is the only thing that hurts us.
| I’ll take that as a compliment. |
How many are confirmed? 比 How's it going? I'm working on it
Let me see the email → 发现没发 → I'll write it, you send it。
3. Silence is the only thing that hurts us 是好用的管理话术。
Jay(财务) Ethan(新成员) Priya(来帮忙的社员) You(社长)
Priya: Wei, the projector doesn’t work.
You: Doesn’t turn on, or doesn’t connect?
Priya: Turns on. Nobody’s laptop connects to it.
You: Did we test it before today?
Priya: …No.
没有。
You: Okay, that’s on us. Ethan, is there an HDMI cable in the media closet?
Ethan: I’ll check. Back in two minutes.
Jay: Meanwhile, plan B. Do we need slides?
You: Only for the opening. The panelists don’t have slides.
Jay: Then you can do the opening without them. Just talk.
You: I’d rather have the schedule on screen. People want to know what’s next.
Jay: Print it. There’s a printer in the office.
You: Do we have paper? Actually — better idea. Do we have a whiteboard?
Priya: There’s one on the wall behind the curtain.
You: Perfect. I’ll write the schedule on the whiteboard. Ethan, forget the cable.
You: Okay, we’re starting. Small change — no slides tonight, the schedule’s on the whiteboard.
You: Also, the food is at the back. Please eat. We ordered too much.
Jay: Nice recovery.
You: I panicked for about ten seconds.
Jay: Nobody could tell. That’s the whole job.
Priya: So what do we fix for next time?
You: Two things. Test the equipment the day before, and always have a whiteboard plan.
Ethan: I found the cable, by the way. It was in the closet.
You: Of course it was. Put it back where you found it — next time we’ll know.

| Did we test it before today? | | |
| That’s on us. | |
| Meanwhile, plan B. | | |
| Do we need slides? | | |
| I’d rather have the schedule on screen. | | |
| Do we have a whiteboard? | | |

| Nice recovery. | | |
| Nobody could tell. | | |
| So what do we fix for next time?
Small change — no slides tonight
So what do we fix for next time?
