打羽毛球：订场地与双打轮换

羽毛球在美国不是主流运动，这一点必须先说清楚，因为它直接决定了你的对话场景长什么样。美国没有国内那种遍地开花的球馆，打球主要在三个地方：社区中心（community center）、大学体育馆（university gym）、以及亚裔社区的自建球馆。场地通常按小时出租（by the hour），要提前预约（reserve a court），很多地方还要先办会员（membership）才有会员价。

第二个差别是用词。球不叫 ball，叫 shuttlecock，口语里绝大多数人说的是 birdie。拍子不叫 bat，叫 racket。0 比 0 叫 love-all（从网球借来）。发球擦网后重发叫 let；发球违例叫 fault；双打得分后交换左右半场喊 switch，一局结束双方换场地才叫 switch sides。这些词不用，对方能听懂，但立刻知道你没在美国打过球。

第三个差别是双打是主流。美国社区中心订场的人里，打双打（doubles）的远多于单打（singles），因为一块场地能塞四个人，摊下来便宜。所以你一定用得上轮换站位的说法：发球方得分后两人要交换左右半场，接发球方不用动。这个规则在英文里说成 You switch when you win a point on your serve.——搞清楚这句话，双打就不会站位站错。

最后一点文化提醒：美国球场上界内界外的争议比篮球足球少得多，因为大家普遍打得很客气，通常是离球近的人自己喊。喊 Out! 的时候会带一个手势（手掌张开朝下），而且喊完常补一句 Sorry, that was close.——太较真会被认为很奇怪。真拿不准就说 I could be wrong.，一句 Fair enough. 这球就过去了。

美国球场上喊 Out! 时，几乎所有人都会同时举起手掌、掌心朝下。这个手势是通用信号，比声音传得远。只喊不摆手，别人会不确定你是不是在说别的。

2. 争议时"太较真"才是失礼。

羽毛球在美国属于休闲运动，大家默认两边都照实喊。标准流程是：怀疑 → Was that in or out? → 对方解释 → Fair enough. 到此结束。继续争下去才是没礼貌，跟篮球场上可以多争两句不一样。

3. let 和 fault 不是一回事。

You guys came back hard、That last one could've gone either way 都是标准说法。美国人不流行解释客观原因（拍不好、风太大、没吃饭），说多了显得输不起。

3. 球是消耗品，谁约球谁带球。

球打久了羽毛会散，速度变慢，这时候说 The birdie's getting slow 或者 This one's dead。一筒球叫 a tube of birdies，跟美国朋友打球，轮流带球是默认规矩。

美国休闲球局习惯当场 AA，How much do I owe you? 是最自然的问法。别拖到下次，也别抢着请客——抢请客在美国球场上是给朋友添压力。
