Let me check the rulebook,这是正常的,不算不给你面子。 (Good game, you got me),找借口(I wasn't paying attention、The dice hate me)说一次是幽默,反复说会让人不想再跟你玩。
Jay(同事,桌游收藏很多,讲规则很快) Nina(Jay 的室友,玩得熟) You(第一次来)
Jay: Okay, so this one’s called Wingspan. It’s about birds.
You: Birds. Okay. And I win by…?
Jay: Most points at the end. You get points from birds, eggs, and bonus cards.
You: Sorry, eggs?
Jay: Yeah, birds lay eggs and eggs are worth points.
You: Okay, I’m following. Barely.
Nina: Don’t worry, nobody gets it the first game. I lost my first three.
Jay: Rules are simple though. Four actions per turn: play a bird, gather food, lay eggs, or draw cards.
You: Only one of those per turn?
Jay: Right. And you have to pay food to play a bird. The cost is on the card.
You: So this bird costs two fish and a seed.
Jay: Exactly. You’ve got it.
You: Can I ask something dumb? Why do the cards have different colors?
Nina: Not dumb. Colors are habitats — forest, grassland, wetland.
Jay: And each habitat has its own action. It’s on your player mat.
You: Okay, one more. Do I have to keep my cards secret?
Jay: Your hand, yes. Your board, no — everything on the table is public.
You: Got it. Let’s just play and you can correct me.
Nina: That’s the right attitude. Ready?
Jay: Wait, I need to shuffle. And Wei — you’re first player.
You: Me? I don’t even know what I’m doing.
Jay: Best way to learn.

桌游规则再复杂,先问"怎么赢"就有方向:How do you win? 或者 I win by…?。
2. your hand 是手牌,the table 是公开区。
3. You're first player
Jay(讲规则的人,可能记错) Nina(玩得熟) You
Jay: Wait, you can’t do that.
You: I can’t? Why not?
Jay: Because you already used that action this turn.
You: I thought each habitat was a separate action.
Jay: No, you only get one action total per turn.
Nina: Hold on. I think Wei’s right. Let me see the rulebook.
Jay: It says one action per turn.
Nina: Read the next line.
Jay: “…one action per turn, in any habitat.” …Oh. Yeah, okay. You’re right.
You: So I get one action but I can pick which habitat.
Nina: Right. Jay, you’ve been playing it wrong for two years.
Jay: In my defense, I’ve been winning.
Nina: Against who?
Jay: …Fair.
You: So does my move stand?
Jay: Yeah, play it out. My mistake.
You: Thanks. And hey, it’s fine — I’d have played it the same way.
Jay: Appreciate that. Okay, Nina’s turn.
Nina: Finally. I’ve been waiting to play this card for two rounds.

| You can’t do that. | |
| Why not? | |
| I thought each habitat was separate. |
| Hold on. | |
| I think Wei’s right. | |
| Let me see the rulebook. |
| Read the next line. | | |
| You’ve been playing it wrong. | | |
| In my defense, I’ve been winning. |
| Does my move stand? | | |
| Play it out. My mistake. | | |
| I’d have played it the same way.
Let me check the rulebook,然后一起读那一行。
Oh. Yeah, okay. You're right. My mistake.
I'd have played it the same way 或 Easy mistake 能立刻把气氛拉回来。
Jay(赢了这局) Nina(垫底) You(第二名)
Jay: Let’s count. I’ve got ninety-four.
You: Eighty-one for me.
Nina: Sixty-two. I got destroyed.
Jay: Good game, both of you. Nina, your engine was actually better than mine.
Nina: Then why did I lose by thirty points?
Jay: Because you spent three turns drawing cards. Points come from eggs.
Nina: I know that now.
You: Same mistake I made in round two. I drafted too many birds and couldn’t pay for them.
Jay: That’s the classic trap. Food is the bottleneck.
Nina: Okay, I’m over it. Who’s up for another?
Jay: I’m in. Wei?
You: One more. I want to try a different strategy.
Nina: Don’t do the egg thing. Jay already does the egg thing.
Jay: I do the egg thing very well.
You: What should I do instead?
Nina: Try the wetlands build. Fewer birds, more food, and you can chain actions.
You: Chain actions. That sounds advanced.
Nina: It is. That’s why I lose.
Jay: Ha. Alright, shuffle up.

I lost because I was unlucky. | 反复找借口会让人不想跟你玩 | I drafted too many birds — classic trap. |
You only won because I made mistakes. Your setup was better. |
This game is too complicated. | 抱怨游戏 | This one's got a lot going on. |
I don't want to play anymore. |
I am the winner, haha. | 得意 | Good game, both of you. |
1. engine
(Your engine was better than mine)是标准得体的做法。
3. I'm over it 是"我不纠结了"。
Jay(组织者) Marcus(同事,第一次来) You
Jay: Okay, ground rules. Chips only, no money. Everyone good with that?
Marcus: Fine by me. I don’t want to lose rent money.
You: So the chips are just for keeping score?
Jay: Basically. Winner gets bragging rights and picks the next game.
You: Then why does everyone look so serious?
Jay: Ha. Because bragging rights are serious.
Marcus: I fold.
Jay: That’s three folds in a row. Are you okay?
Marcus: I’m learning. I’ve never played before.
You: Same here. What’s the difference between calling and raising?
Jay: Calling means you match the bet. Raising means you put in more.
Marcus: And folding is giving up on this hand.
Jay: Right. And you don’t have to play every hand. That’s the first lesson.
You: Is it rude to fold a lot?
Jay: Not at all. Folding’s a real move. The people who play everything lose.
Jay: And that’s me. Good hand.
Marcus: What did you have?
Jay: Two pair. You?
Marcus: Full house.
Jay: Full house. First time playing. Sure.
Marcus: Beginner’s luck. I’m sure it won’t last.
You: That’s what everyone says. Then they keep losing to you.
Jay: Okay, new rule — Marcus sits out next week.
Marcus: That’s not a real rule.
Jay: It is tonight.

Let's play money, small. |
I don't know, I just play random. | 显得不在意别人 | I'm learning — what's a raise? |
You are lucky, not good. Beginner's luck on my side. |
I want to see your cards. |
This game is boring. | 扫兴 | I'm still learning the flow. |
Chips only, no money
Folding's a real move
追问对方底牌(What did you have?)
Jay(老朋友,桌游收藏很多) Nina(Jay 的室友) You(第一次自己组织)
You: Hey, thinking about hosting a game night Saturday. You two in?
Jay: In. What are we playing?
You: That’s what I wanted to ask. I only have two games.
Jay: I’ll bring three. How many people total?
You: Four, maybe five. Marcus might come.
Nina: Five changes what you can play. A lot of games cap at four.
You: Good to know. Should I tell him not to come?
Jay: No, don’t do that. Just pick a game that plays five.
You: How do I know which ones play five?
Jay: It’s on the box. “2-4 players” or “3-5 players.” Always check before you invite.
You: Noted. Also — what do people eat? Do I need to cook?
Nina: Don’t cook. Snacks. Chips, dip, something you can eat with one hand.
You: One hand?
Nina: Because your other hand is holding cards. Trust me, nobody wants greasy cards.
You: That’s a real consideration.
Jay: It is. Also, set a start time and actually start then.
You: Why’s that matter?
Jay: Because if you wait for latecomers, the people who showed up on time are stuck waiting. It kills the night.
You: So start at seven with whoever’s there.
Jay: Exactly. Late guy joins the next round.
You: Okay. Saturday at seven. I’ll send the address.
Nina: Bringing dip.
Jay: Bringing three games and a spare table.
You: A spare table?
Jay: You’ll see. Board games eat tables.

I will prepare dinner for everyone. | 桌游局不做正餐,会拖时间 | I'll do snacks — chips and dip. |
Please come, I will wait for everyone. | 等迟到的人会毁掉整晚 | We start at seven; latecomers join the next round. |
How many people can come? I don't know the game. | 顺序反了 | Let me check the player count on the box. |
You must arrive on time! | 太硬 | We're starting at seven sharp. |
I don't have enough games, please bring yours. | 可以,但更自然 | I only have two — can you bring a couple? |
2-4 players、3-5 players、1-4 players。
We start at seven
