四个人:你(中国人)、Jenna(攻略型、预算控、所有表格都是她做的)、Marco(随性、随时改计划)、Emma(中间派,专门负责打圆场)。
| 不好意思开口催钱 | Hey, did you ever get that Venmo?
I'll Venmo you;Splitwise
|---|---|
You always ruin the plan. | I'm not sure that works for me — can we do the beach tomorrow instead? |
That's a stupid idea. | I'm down for either, but I'd rather not drive three hours. |
You never listen. | Honestly, I think I need a slow morning. Can we meet up later? |
(I need… / I'd rather…)
Let's split up and meet back at six.——各玩各的,晚上再一起吃饭。
长途飞行后的时差 jet lag;托运的箱子 checked bag,随身带的 carry-on;租车 rental car,多一个司机要加 additional driver;住民宿的入住和退房叫 check-in / check-out,房主叫 the host。
You(中国人,跟另外三个人一起去丹佛) Jenna(攻略型,预算控,表格和截图都是她做的) Marco(随性,随时改计划) Emma(中间派)
You: So are we still doing Denver? I keep hearing different dates.
Jenna: Yeah, July 12th to the 15th. I sent the flight options last night — did you guys even read ’em?
Marco: I skimmed it. United looked fine to me.
Jenna: Two eighteen round trip out of SFO. Your move. I haven’t bought anything yet.
Marco: Oh — I thought you bought the tickets already.
Jenna: No, I just looked up prices. One of us has to actually click buy.
You: What’s our budget here, honestly? Like, all in.
Jenna: I’m thinking around six hundred each — flight, three nights, rental car, gas, food.
Emma: That’s doable for me. Should we put the number in the group chat so nobody’s guessing?
Jenna: Already did. I wrote it in the notes app and screenshotted it.
Emma: What about the flights, though? Do we buy together or separately?
Jenna: Separately, but today, so we’re on the same plane. If you wait a week it’ll be three fifty.
You: Okay, I’ll do it tonight.
Jenna: Six forty a.m. out of SFO, so at the airport by four forty-five.
Marco: Ugh. That’s brutal. Can we not?
Jenna: It’s the only nonstop. Everything else has a layover in Phoenix.
You: What about the house? That’s the big number, right?
Jenna: Right. I’m thinking sixty a night each, so seven twenty total for three nights.
Emma: That sounds about right for four people. I can look at listings this weekend.
Jenna: Do that. And who’s booking it? Because I’ll book it if you guys Venmo me.
You: That works. How much do you want up front?
Jenna: Half now, half when we get there. I’m not fronting eight hundred bucks on my own.
Marco: Fair enough. What if somebody bails, though?
Jenna: Then they still pay their share, unless we find a replacement. That’s why I’m asking now and not in July.
You: Okay. So flights tonight, house this weekend. Whose name goes on the rental car?
Jenna: Mine, since I’m twenty-six. Under twenty-five and they tack on a young driver fee.
Marco: Right, I forgot about that. I’m only twenty-three, so I’d have been stuck with it.
Jenna: Anyway, flights tonight, house by Sunday. If nobody buys a ticket, I’m going alone.
Marco: Relax, I’m doing it right now. Let’s do it.

1. Venmo me 和 I'll Venmo you 是美国人分账的默认动词。
Venmo me for the house(房钱转我)、I'll Venmo you tonight(我今晚转你)。 I'll pay you back
2. I'm thinking…
I'm thinking around sixty a night 比 It's sixty a night
Can you front the deposit? = 押金你能先垫吗?I'm not fronting eight hundred bucks = 我不想先垫八百块。
Jenna(已经筛了三个房源,预算控) Marco(随性,但这次想省钱) Emma(中间派) You(中国人,比较在意位置)
Jenna: Okay, I found three places. All in Denver, all under budget. Don’t all talk at once.
Marco: Send the links. I wanna see the photos, not the numbers.
Jenna: Photos are in the listing. Look at number two — it’s the cheapest.
You: Where is it, though? That’s the thing I care about most.
Jenna: It’s in Aurora. Twenty minutes from downtown.
Marco: Twenty minutes with no traffic. With traffic it’s forty.
Emma: And we’d need the car every single time. Parking downtown is like thirty bucks a day.
Jenna: Okay, so scratch that one. Number one’s in RiNo, walkable to everything. It’s seventy-five a night each.
Marco: That’s fifteen over. Times three nights, that’s forty-five each. I’d rather put that toward food.
Jenna: Counterpoint: we save the parking and we don’t need the car for two of the days.
You: Okay, between the parking and the walking, I’m sold. What are the beds like?
Jenna: Three bedrooms. One king, two queens.
Marco: Oh, so I’m sharing. Who with?
Jenna: You and me, unless someone wants to pay extra for the third room.
Marco: No, I’m good. I just wanted to know before I got there.
You: How’s the host? Any weird rules?
Jenna: Check-in’s at four, checkout’s at ten. No parties, and there’s a cleaning fee of ninety.
Emma: Cleaning fee splits four ways, right? Not per room?
Jenna: Right. Everything splits four ways except the bedrooms.
Marco: Wait, is it refundable? Because if we cancel we’re out nine hundred bucks.
Jenna: It says free cancellation for forty-eight hours. After that, half.
You: Good. Book it, and I’ll Venmo you my half right now.
Jenna: Booking it. Sending the confirmation to the group so we all have it.

在美国说"我们订了个民宿",最自然的说法是 We booked an Airbnb 或者 We got a rental。房东不叫 landlord(landlord 是长租房的房东),短租平台的房主一律叫 the host。
2. splits four ways
splits four ways(四个人平摊)、splits two ways(两个人分)、let's just split it(平摊吧)。
It's twenty minutes from downtown 是喜好,we'd pay thirty bucks a day for parking 是代价。
You(手机还有电,正在查地图) Marco(带路带错了方向,嘴上不认) Jenna(手机没电了,手里拿着打印的确认单) Emma(一直在看路牌) Stranger(路过的本地人,被拦下来问路)
Marco: Okay, so I think we went the wrong way. This is not the street.
Jenna: You think? We’ve been walking fifteen minutes in the wrong direction.
You: It’s fine, it’s fine. Let’s just figure out where we are.
Emma: Oh hey, there’s a sign. Sixteenth Street. Does that mean anything to anyone?
Jenna: My phone died an hour ago, so I’m useless. I printed the confirmation, but it’s just the address.
Marco: I’ve got one bar. One. And it’s not loading.
You: I’ve got a map, but it’s not moving. Hold on — let me try zooming out.
Emma: Let’s just ask somebody. People here are nice.
You: Yeah, okay. Excuse me — sorry to bother you. Are we anywhere near Larimer Street?
Stranger: Larimer? You’re about four blocks east. Go straight down this street and take a left at the light.
You: Four blocks east, left at the light. Thank you so much.
Stranger: No problem. It’s the one with all the lights and the bars, you can’t miss it.
Marco: See? I knew we were close.
Jenna: You were close in the wrong direction. There’s a difference.
Emma: Hey. We’re four blocks away. Can we not do this right now?
You: She’s right. Which way’s east, though? I always get turned around.
Emma: The mountains are west. So east is behind us.
Marco: Good. So we turn around, walk four blocks, hang a left.
Jenna: And the host said check-in’s at four, so we’ve gotta kill an hour. It’s fine.
Marco: My bad on the directions. I turned us around at that park.
You: Don’t worry about it. Happens to everybody without signal.

Excuse me, sorry to bother you — are we anywhere near…?。两个动作缺一不可:先 Excuse me 把人叫住,再 sorry to bother you 表示我知道我在打扰你。 Are we close to downtown?
You always get us lost My phone died、There's no signal here、I turned us around——说事实、认自己那份,然后立刻转回解决问题。
3. hang a left / hang a right 是方向口语。
此外 take a left at the light(红绿灯左转)、it's on your right(在你右手边)、you can't miss it(不会错过)都是指路的固定说法。
Marco(想去山里徒步,随性但这次很坚持) You(也想爬山,跟 Marco 一边) Jenna(昨天开了一天车,只想躺沙滩) Emma(中间派,负责打圆场)
Jenna: Okay, what’s the plan today? And please don’t say “hike.”
Marco: What’s wrong with hiking? We’re in Colorado. That’s the whole point.
Jenna: The whole point was vacation. I drove six hours yesterday.
Marco: We can drive to the trailhead. You don’t have to hike.
Jenna: So I sit in the car for two more hours and wait for you guys? No thanks.
You: I’m down for either, but honestly, I kind of came here for the mountains.
Emma: Okay, let’s slow down. What do you actually wanna do today?
Jenna: I wanna sit by a pool with a book and not drive anywhere.
Marco: See? Two against two.
Emma: It’s not a vote, Marco. What if we do the hike early tomorrow instead?
Jenna: Tomorrow’s our last day, and we’ve gotta be out by ten.
You: That’s true. Tomorrow’s gonna be tight.
Marco: So let’s split up. We hike, you guys do the pool thing, we meet back at six.
Jenna: Honestly? That sounds kind of perfect.
Emma: Same. I’ll go with Jenna — I need a slow morning.
You: Wait, is that weird? Splitting up on a trip, I mean.
Marco: Not at all. People do it all the time. You’re not gonna like every single thing.
Emma: Yeah, and honestly, forcing everyone to do the same thing is how trips go bad.
Jenna: Okay, so trail people, you take the car. Pool people, we’ll walk to the pool.
You: Works for me. I’m not sure a whole day of hiking works for Jenna anyway.
Marco: Right. Text us when you get there so we know you’re alive.
Jenna: You too. And be back by six — I made a reservation for dinner.
Marco: Wait, you made a reservation? For how many?
Jenna: Four. I figured we’d all want to eat together.

|---|---|---|
You always ruin the plan. | 攻击人格,旅行当天就毁了 | I'm not sure that works for me — can we do the beach tomorrow instead? |
I don't want to go with you. | 听着像绝交 | Let's split up today and meet back at six. |
You must come with us. | 强拉人,对方会更抵触 | No pressure — we can meet up for dinner. |
I think your plan is bad. | 直接否定对方 | I'd rather not drive that far today. |
I'm boring, you go. | 中式表达,boring 是"无聊的" | I'll sit this one out. |
We are two, so we win. | 拿人数压人 | It's not a vote — how about we split up? |
Please don't be angry. | 预设对方生气了,反而升级 | No worries if you'd rather do your own thing. |
1. I'm down for either, but…
Let's split up、Let's do our own thing today、We'll meet back at six——
I need a slow morning / I'd rather not drive that far You're being lazy / Your plan is boring
Jenna(手里有 Splitwise,账单都记着) Marco(垫了租车、油钱和门票) Emma(欠 Marco 一笔,一直没转) You(垫了民宿那部分)
Jenna: Okay, let’s just settle this so it stops hanging over us. Marco, read your list.
Marco: Gas, eighty-two. Rental car, three forty. Parking, sixty. Trail passes, forty.
Jenna: And I put everything in Splitwise this morning, so the app already has it.
You: Wait, did you log the Airbnb? You covered the first half.
Jenna: I logged it. Twelve hundred total, three hundred each, four ways.
Emma: Hmm, why am I two hundred eighty-five and not three hundred?
Jenna: Because you paid for the last dinner. I put that in as a credit.
Marco: Hold on, the rental car — that’s four ways or three? You didn’t drive at all.
You: I didn’t have the additional driver thing on my license, but I did pay for half the gas.
Jenna: Gas is four ways. The car — honestly, I think four ways is fair. I drove it.
Marco: Okay, fine, but that’s only fair if she’s not also paying for the upgrade I wanted.
Jenna: She isn’t. That extra forty is on you and me. I logged it separately.
Emma: Sounds fair. So what do I owe you, Marco?
Marco?
Marco: Like sixty-two bucks. Sixty-two and change. I’ll just send you the Venmo request.
Emma: Oh my god, I never sent that. I’m so sorry — I totally forgot. Let me do it right now.
Marco: You’re fine. Seriously, it’s been two weeks, I wasn’t gonna sweat sixty bucks.
Jenna: Yeah, but that’s why we put it in the app. Nobody has to remember anything.
You: Am I square? I Venmoed you two-forty for the house the day we got back.
Jenna: You’re square. Marco’s the only one who’s still owed, and it’s just Emma now.
Marco: And after this, I’m deleting the spreadsheet.
Jenna: No you’re not. You’ll do the next one too, and you’ll like it.
Marco: Honestly? Yeah, probably.

(I'll send you the Venmo request)。
You never pay me back。
I'll send you the Venmo request — no rush. |
Hey, did you ever get that Venmo? |
You're fine. Seriously, I wasn't gonna sweat sixty bucks. |
Whenever you get a chance — I'm covering the deposit this week. |
民宿、租车这种大额,分法是可以说理的:按人头分(four ways)、按房间分(per room)、谁要的升级谁出(that extra forty is on you and me)。

1. What's our budget?
2. Let's split up and meet back at six.
Let's SPLIT up and meet back at SIX——两个信息点落在 split 和 six 上。
3. I'll Venmo you 的 Venmo 是动词,读 /ˈvɛnmoʊ/。
I'd rather not drive that far.
