What do you wanna do? → I'm down for whatever. → Who's driving?。
Either one works for me. |
I'm not big on…,再给替代方案 | I'm not big on hiking. |
Let me throw in for gas. |
Mind if I bring my roommate? |
I gotta bail. Rain check? |
| 谁付钱 | 抢着付或干脆 AA | 分摊和请客都常见,点单前就问清 | Are we splitting this? |
Let's lock in a day. |
美国朋友出去吃饭,Let's split it.(平摊)和 I got this.(我来付)都常见,关系好的朋友之间还常轮流请客(You got it last time.)。 Let's split it. / Let's split the bill.
Who's driving? / Can you pick me up? (Let me throw in for gas.) (You don't have to. / Nah, you're good.),你说 I insist.
Mind if I bring my roommate? 对方回 The more the merrier.
We should do this again. 想真约,就趁热把时间定下来:Same time next week? (Karaoke on Tuesday?)。Let's hang out soon
Tyler(美国朋友,爱张罗,每次都是他起头) Jenna(会开车、务实,说话直接) Marco(总临时变卦的那个) You(在美工作的中国人)
Tyler: Yo. Saturday. What are we doing?
周六。
Marco: I’m down for whatever. Hiking?
Jenna: Dude, you bailed on the last hike. I’m not big on it either — it’s supposed to rain.
Tyler: Yeah, I saw that too. So — indoor stuff. Oh hey, what about that arcade bar downtown?
Marco: Eh. Not really my thing.
Jenna: Then give us another option. Don’t just shoot everything down.
Marco: I dunno, man. Tacos again?
Tyler: You weren’t even there last time. Anyway — arcade bar’s my vote.
Jenna: Same. I don’t really drink, but I’m kinda into skee ball. I could play that all night.
Tyler: Okay — arcade bar it is. Saturday, eight.
Tyler: You. You’ve been quiet.
You: Sorry, I was in the shower. I’m in, though. Do we need a reservation? Saturdays get packed.
Tyler: Nah, we’ll just roll up. If there’s a line, we wait.
You: Okay. And parking downtown on a Saturday? That’s gonna be a mess.
Jenna: There’s a garage on 5th. I’ll send the address. Worst case we walk a few blocks.
Marco: Okay, fine. But if it’s lame we’re leaving.
Jenna: Oh, we’re leaving. You’re the one who suggested hiking.
You: In.
Jenna: In. I’ll grab the address.
Marco: Yeah yeah. In.

|---|---|---|
Let's go out and play together. | play 只用于小孩和运动,成年人"出去玩"是 hang out | Let's hang out tomorrow. |
We are four people. | 中式直译,英文说人数用 there’s / we’ve got | There's four of us. |
I have no opinion. | 太书面,像开会 | I'm down for whatever. / Either one works. |
I don't like hiking. | 太硬,像否定对方的提议 | I'm not big on hiking. |
You decide, I follow you. | 中式结构 | I'm good with whatever you pick. |
What time is convenient for you? | 太正式,朋友间不用 convenient | What time works for you? |
Please reply me. | reply 不能直接带人 | Let me know. / Text me back. |
I will arrive there at 8 o'clock. | 生硬,口语不用 arrive + there | I'll be there at eight. |
1. I'm down.
这是美国人答应邀约最常用的一个词,后面可以接 for whatever / for tacos / for Saturday。比 I want to go 自然一百倍。 I'm in.
2. I might be able to 是没定,不是答应。
I might be able to make it. / I'll try to swing by.
(I'm down. / Not really my thing.),发起人收口(Okay, arcade bar it is.)。
bail(临时退出)和 flake(反复爽约的人)都是日常词:He flaked on us again. / You flake every time.
Jenna(开车的人,务实) Tyler(家里只有一辆车,正愁怎么过去) You(没车,需要搭车)
Jenna: Okay, I can drive. But I only got four seats, so two of you are squeezing in the back.
Tyler: I’ll take the middle. I don’t mind.
You: You sure? The middle seat’s the worst.
Tyler: It’s like ten minutes. I’ll live.
Jenna: Alright. I’m gonna grab you two at seven thirty.
You: Yeah, can you pick me up first? My car’s in the shop till Monday.
Jenna: Yeah, you’re on the way. Tyler’s the one who’s out of the way.
Tyler: Hey, I live like five minutes further. Relax.
Jenna: Five minutes both ways. Anyway — seven thirty. Don’t make me wait.
Tyler: We’ll be out front. Text when you’re close.
You: Thanks again for driving. This is way easier than the bus.
Jenna: No worries. Parking downtown’s a pain, but whatever.
You: You want gas money? Let me throw in for gas.
Jenna: You don’t have to.
You: I insist. You’re driving both ways.
Jenna: Fine. Ten bucks. By the way, Venmo’s easiest for me.
You: Deal. I’ll Venmo you now.
Tyler: Yo, I brought cash — here. And I owe you for last time too.
Jenna: You don’t owe me anything. Put that away.
Tyler: I’m giving you the cash. Just take it.
Jenna: Okay, okay. Coffee’s on me tomorrow, then. We’re even.
You: See, this is how it’s supposed to work.
Jenna: Right? Nobody keeps score, and everybody pays for something.
|---|---|---|
| I can drive. |
| Two of you are squeezing in the back. | squeeze in = 挤进去 |
| Can you pick me up?
| You’re on the way. You're out of the way.(绕路) |
| Text when you’re close. |
| Let me throw in for gas.
| You don’t have to.
| I insist.
| Ten bucks. Venmo’s easiest.
| I owe you for last time.
| You don’t owe me anything. |
| Coffee’s on me tomorrow. We’re even. | even = 不欠了 |
Let me throw in for gas. / Let me throw you some gas money.——throw (You don't have to. / Nah, you're good.),那是客气,不是真不要。
(Fine, ten bucks. / Coffee's on me, we're even.)。 I insist.
3. You're on the way 是同意接你的关键句。
You're like five minutes out of the way. / I'm right off the highway.
Venmo(Venmo's easiest. / I'll Venmo you.),少数人用 Cash App 或 Zelle。
Tyler(组织的人) Jenna(已经订了位子) Marco(已经答应来,又临时放鸽子) You(要带朋友的你)
You: Hey — quick question. Mind if I bring my roommate? He just moved here and doesn’t know anybody.
Tyler: Yeah, bring ’em. The more the merrier.
Jenna: Wait, I booked a table for four. Now we’re five.
Tyler: I’ll call and change it. Not a big deal.
Jenna: Kay. Just tell me before we sit down, not at the door.
You: My bad. I just found out he was free.
Marco: Hey guys. Something came up. I gotta bail.
Tyler: Seriously? Aw, man. I mean, you flake every time.
Marco: I know, I know. My sister needs help moving. It’s not like I wanna be hauling boxes on a Saturday.
Jenna: You could’ve said that yesterday.
Marco: I didn’t know yesterday. Sorry, man.
Tyler: It’s fine. Next time, tell us earlier.
You: No worries. Next time.
Marco: Rain check on the arcade bar, for sure. Have fun, guys.
Jenna: So we’re back to four. Should I keep the bigger table?
Tyler: Keep it. More room for food.
Jenna: Okay. And tell your roommate we’re happy to have him. Let me know tonight so I can fix the table.
You: Will do. Thanks, guys.
Tyler: Works. See you at eight.

|---|---|---|
| Mind if I bring my roommate?
| Is it cool if my friend tags along?
| The more the merrier. |
| I booked a table for four. |
| Something came up.
| I gotta bail.
| No worries. Next time.

|---|---|---|
I want to bring my friend, OK? | 像通知,不像征求同意 | Mind if I bring my friend? |
Can I bring one more person? | 语法没错,但太"申请"了,朋友间生硬 | Is it cool if my friend tags along? |
He has something so he cannot come. | 含糊又生硬,听着像编的 | Something came up, so he can't make it. |
Sorry I can't go, I have a thing. | a thing 太模糊,朋友间会追问 | Sorry, I gotta bail — something came up. |
You always cheat me. | 完全不是这个意思(cheat = 骗) | You flake every time. |
I will not come tomorrow, sorry. | 太直、太硬,也不说原因 | I'm gonna have to bail tomorrow. Sorry, man. |
Please don't be angry. Next time for sure. |
Next time I will go, I promise. I really wanna go. |
1. Mind if I…?
Mind if I bring my roommate? / Mind if I grab a chair? 比 Can I…? Yeah, go for it. / Not at all. / Yeah, bring 'em.——注意 Mind if…?
bail 是这一次临时退出(动词,也可以说 He bailed on us.);flake 是"这人每次都这样"(He's such a flake.)。
→ Next time.
Tyler(爱请客,也爱张罗) Jenna(务实派,主张分摊) Marco(嘴上说要请,手在桌下摸手机) You(第一次跟他们出来,怕自己搞错规矩)
Tyler: Okay — before we order dessert, are we splitting this or what?
Jenna: Splitting’s easiest. Everybody Venmos me and I’ll put it on my card. Or we can ask for separate checks, but that takes forever.
You: Actually, what’s the usual thing with you guys? I don’t wanna be the one who gets it wrong.
Tyler: Depends. Honestly, sometimes we split, sometimes one person grabs it and we rotate.
Marco: I got it last time. So technically I’m off the hook.
Jenna: You did not get it last time. You put twenty bucks in and left early.
Marco: That’s basically getting it.
Tyler: Anyway. Let’s just split it. Clean, no arguing.
You: Works for me. But hold on — you know, are we splitting evenly, or by what we ordered?
Jenna: Evenly’s fine. Marco’s entree was like thirty bucks, mine was eighteen.
Marco: Hey, I didn’t order the lobster. It was a burger.
Jenna: With two appetizers. Anyway, I don’t care. Evenly.
You: Got it. I’ll send mine now.
Jenna: You said that last time too.
Marco: Come on, I’m good for it. I left my phone in the car.
Tyler: You know what — I got this. I mean, this one’s on me.
Jenna: What? No. You got it two weeks ago.
Tyler: I know, I know. But you drove today, so technically you’re even.
Jenna: That’s not how it works.
You: Okay, so — split three ways, and Tyler covers Marco?
Tyler: Yeah, that works. And Marco, you’re on your own next time.
Marco: Fair. I’ll get the next one. For real this time.

| I’ll get the next one. |
Are we splitting this? / How are we doing this? / One check or separate?
Let's just do separate checks.
You got it last time. / I'll get the next one.——不是客气话,是真的在排班。
Next one's on me. (Can I get the check?
I'll Venmo you. / Venmo me.
Tyler(意犹未尽,想续摊也想约下次) Jenna(开车的人,负责送人) Marco(一出门就看表) You(要蹭车回家的人)
Tyler: That was actually fun. Better than I expected.
Jenna: It’s a Saturday. It’s always like that. Anyway — I’m heading out. Who needs a ride?
Marco: I’m good, I drove.
Jenna: You drove? You bailed on us at four.
Marco: I bailed on the plan. Not on the whole night. It’s different.
Tyler: That is not different at all.
You: Hang on — Marco, since you’re here, are you in for next Saturday too?
Marco: I might be able to. Depends on my sister.
Jenna: Translation: no.
Tyler: Okay, whatever. You two — I can drop you off. Jenna, you good to take the west side?
Jenna: Yeah, I’m already going that way. Hop in.
You: Thanks. I’m like ten minutes from here. Let me throw you a couple bucks for gas again.

1. We should do this again.
Same time next week? / Tuesday? / Let's lock it in. 只回一句 Yeah, we should!
(I'm on the way 的人)。 I'll drop you two first.
3. Get home safe.
对方回 You too. 加一句 Get home safe.

1. I'm down.
读成 I'm DOWn.,句尾下沉,表确定。 I'm in.
2. You don't have to.
前半句降(You don't),后半句 HAVE to 上扬,听起来才是"哎呀不用啦"。
3. Are we splitting this?
4. No worries.
5. I insist.
