That's awful. / I'm so sorry. / That really sucks.。 Do you want advice, or do you just want to vent?
I'm here for you.(我在你这边)/ Let me know if you need anything.(需要什么跟我说)/ Take your time.(慢慢来)。 Let me know if you need anything
I've been really overwhelmed. 比 I'm fine. I felt hurt when you forgot. 比 You don't care about me.
No way! / Shut up!(朋友之间表示"真的假的!",不是骂人)/ That's huge! / Congrats!。你被夸的时候不要推掉,接住就行——Thanks, I'm still kind of in shock.
That really sucks. |
Do you want advice or just to vent? |
No way! Congrats! |
I've been overwhelmed. |
I felt hurt when you… |
| 说 No | 找一堆理由绕过去 | I love you, but I can't do that right now. |
You(中国人,Nina 的好朋友) Nina(好朋友,今天刚被裁)
Nina: Hey. Are you home? I need to tell you something.
You: Yeah, I’m here. What’s going on? You sound off.
Nina: I got laid off today. My whole team, actually. They just — cut us.
You: Oh no. Nina, I’m so sorry.
Nina: Yeah. Four years at that place. Four years.
You: That really sucks. I don’t even know what to say.
Nina: We got a packet and a thirty-minute meeting. That was it.
You: God. That’s so cold. How are you holding up?
Nina: I keep going back and forth. One minute I’m fine, the next I’m crying in my car.
You: That makes total sense. Something like that hits you in waves.
Nina: I haven’t told my parents yet. I can’t deal with that today.
You: Yeah, no rush on that. And listen — I was gonna jump in with a whole list of “here’s what you should do,” but you didn’t ask for that. Do you want advice, or do you just want to vent?
Nina: Neither, honestly. I just don’t want to be alone right now.
You: Then you’re not alone. I’m here for you. Do you want to talk about it, or do you want a distraction? I can come over either way.
Nina: You don’t have to do that.
You: I know I don’t have to. I want to. I’ll grab food on the way — anything you don’t want?
Nina: No, anything’s fine. Thank you. Sorry, I’m a mess.
You: Don’t apologize. Take your time. I’ll be there in twenty.
Nina: Okay. Hey — thanks for catching yourself back there. Everyone else keeps telling me it’s gonna be fine.
You: Well, it probably will be eventually. That’s just not what today is for.
Nina: Yeah. See you in twenty.

You(中国人,最近压力很大,一直说"我没事") Chris(朋友,愿意听但不会乱给建议)
Chris: Oh hey, you made it. I already ordered. Iced coffee, right?
You: Yeah. Thanks. Sorry I’m late.

You: Honestly? I’ve been kind of overwhelmed lately.

You: A bunch of stuff. Work’s been insane, my mom’s been sick, and I haven’t slept right in like two weeks.
Chris: That’s rough. I’m sorry, man.
You: I keep telling everyone I’m fine, and I’m really not.
Chris: Been there. Do you wanna talk about it, or do you need a distraction?
You: Can I vent for a second? I don’t need you to fix anything.
Chris: Go for it. I’m listening.
You: My manager keeps dumping stuff on me because two people quit and nobody’s replacing ’em, and I don’t know how to say no. Then I go home and just stare at the wall.
Chris: Man. That sounds exhausting.
You: It is. And the worst part is, you know, I feel like I’m failing at everything, even stuff I’m actually good at.
Chris: Dude, you haven’t slept in two weeks. Everything feels like failing when you’re that tired.
You: Thanks for listening. Honestly, just saying it out loud makes it feel lighter.
Chris: Good. Hey — a bunch of us are going out Saturday for Dana’s birthday. You in?
You: I love you, but I can’t do that right now. I’m gonna sleep for two days straight.
Chris: Fair enough. Rain check. And if you ever need a hand — rides, food, whatever — just say the word.

|---|---|---|
| I’ve been kind of overwhelmed lately.
| I keep telling everyone I’m fine. |
| Can I vent for a second? |
| I don’t need you to fix anything. |
| Go for it. I’m listening. |
| That sounds exhausting. |
| I love you, but I can’t do that right now.
| Rain check. |
| Can I ask you for one thing? |
| Fair enough. |
1. vent
I just need to vent. Do you want advice, or do you just want to vent?
I've been better. / Honestly, not great. / I've been kind of overwhelmed lately.
I love you, but I can't do that right now. Fair enough.
Let me know if you need anything / I'll bring food, anything you don't want?——才是真帮上忙。
You(中国人,刚拿到晋升,不太会说好消息) Chris(朋友,反应一贯很夸张)
Chris: So what’s up? You said you had news.
You: Okay, so — I don’t wanna make this a whole thing, but I got the promotion.
Chris: No way! Shut up!
You: I’m serious. They called me in this morning.
Chris: That’s huge! Congrats, man!
You: Thanks. I’m still kind of in shock, honestly.
Chris: Dude, you’ve been grinding for that for like two years.
You: I know. I honestly thought they were gonna give it to Rachel.
Chris: Rachel? No way. You run half that team already.
You: Well — I mean, I had a lot of help.
Chris: Stop. Take the win.
You: Okay, okay. Thanks. It doesn’t feel real yet.
Chris: We’re celebrating. Drinks are on me.
You: You don’t have to do that.
Chris: I know I don’t have to. Shut up and pick a place.
You: Fine. But I’m getting the next round.
Chris: Deal. Oh — speaking of news, I’ve got some too.
You: Yeah? Tell me.
Chris: I got the job. The one at the design studio. They called yesterday.
You: No way! That’s amazing! Congrats!
Chris: Thanks. I’ve been sitting on it for a day because I wanted to tell you in person.
You: I’m so happy for you. Seriously. When do you start?
Chris: Two weeks. I’m kinda terrified, not gonna lie.
You: That’s normal. You’re gonna be great.
Chris: Thanks, man. Okay — food. I’m starving.

You(中国人,被好朋友说漏了私事) Emma(室友兼好友,说漏嘴的那个)
You: Hey. Do you have a minute? I wanna talk about something.
Emma: Yeah, sure. What’s up?
You: I need to be honest with you about something, and I’m not trying to start a fight.
Emma: Okay. That sounds serious.
You: Sam asked me about my mom yesterday. Like, he already knew. And I never told him.
Emma: Oh. Yeah, that was me. I’m sorry — it came up and I just said it.
You: I get that it wasn’t on purpose. But I felt hurt when you told him.
Emma: I didn’t think it was a big deal. He asked how you were doing.
You: I know. But it’s not your thing to share. I told you that in confidence.
Emma: You’re right. I shouldn’t have.
You: And I’m not bringing up other stuff, because that’s not what this is about. It’s just this.
Emma: Okay. I hear you.
You: I’m not saying you can’t talk to people. I just need to know that when I tell you something, it stays with you.
Emma: That’s fair. I messed up.
You: Thank you for saying that. That’s all I needed.
Emma: I feel bad. Do you want me to say something to Sam?
You: No, that’s okay. I’ll handle it. But going forward — if it’s about me, check with me first?
Emma: Yeah, of course. I’m really sorry.

You: Same. Anyway — that was it. I didn’t want it to turn into a whole thing.
Emma: It didn’t. Want tea? I was gonna make some.
|---|---|---|
| Do you have a minute? |
| I need to be honest with you.
| I’m not trying to start a fight. |
| I felt hurt when you…
| It’s not your thing to share. |
| I told you that in confidence.
| I’m not bringing up other stuff. |
| I just need to know that…
| That’s fair. I messed up.
| Going forward, can you…?
You never think about me I felt hurt when you told him,对方只能回应你的感受,没有反驳的余地。
I'm not bringing up other stuff, because that's not what this is about.
3. in confidence 比 you betrayed me 好用得多。
I told you that in confidence(那是我私下跟你说的)说的是事实,不评价人品;You betrayed me 是给人定罪,关系很难收场。
You(中国人,昨晚压力大,冲 Emma 发了火) Emma(室友兼好友,被当众说了难听话)
You: Hey. Can we talk about it?
Emma: Yeah. I figured we would.
You: I’m sorry I snapped at you last night. That was about me, not you.
Emma: I mean, you called me inconsiderate in front of everyone.
You: I know. That wasn’t fair. I was stressed about work and I took it out on you.
Emma: It really embarrassed me.
You: You’re right. I’d be embarrassed too.
Emma: I’m not saying I did nothing. I did forget the trash twice.
You: Honestly, the trash isn’t the issue. I was just already at a ten.
Emma: Yeah. I could tell something was up.
You: Still. It’s not an excuse. I’m sorry.
Emma: Okay. I appreciate you saying it.
You: I don’t wanna do that again. Next time I’m gonna say “I need a minute” instead of blowing up.
Emma: That’d be good. And I’ll actually take the trash out.
You: Deal. So — are we good?
Emma: Yeah, we’re good.
You: I gotta say, I hate it when we’re weird with each other.
Emma: Me too. It was weird.
You: Want to order something? My treat.
Emma: Only if you let me pay for the next one.
You: Fine. But I’m picking the place.
Emma: Obviously. You always do.
|---|---|---|
| Can we talk about it?
| I’m sorry I snapped at you. | snap at sb.
| That was about me, not you.
| I took it out on you. | take it out on sb.
| It’s not an excuse. |
| I’d be embarrassed too.
| I’m gonna say “I need a minute” next time.
| Are we good?
| We’re good.
| My treat. |
I'm sorry I snapped at you in front of everyone 比 I'm sorry, okay?
I'm sorry, but you… It's not an excuse, but I was stressed
3. Are we good? / We're good.
4. I need a minute

1. I'm so sorry.
2. No way! 和 Shut up!
3. Do you want advice, or do you just want to vent?
4. I felt hurt when you…
5. We're good.
We're GOOD.
