How much do you make? 和 How old are you?
How are you? Good, thanks. How about you?(最安全)、Pretty good. You?(随意版)、Not bad. How's it going?(中性)。 只有朋友问 How have you been?
How's your day going?,你答 Fine.,对话就死了。
A:
How's your day going?B:Pretty good, busy though. How about yours?← 反问是关键 A:Same here, can't wait for Friday.
Diane(邻居,住 4D,五十多岁,很健谈) You(刚搬来两周)
Diane: Morning!
You: Morning.
Diane: You’re in 4B, right? The one who just moved in?
You: Yeah, that’s me. Moved in about two weeks ago.
Diane: Oh nice. I’m Diane, 4D. Welcome to the building.
You: Thanks. Wei. Nice to meet you.
Diane: Nice to meet you too. So how are you liking it so far?
You: Pretty good, actually. Still figuring out where everything is, though.
Diane: Oh, that takes a while. Where’d you move from?
You: Shanghai. Came out here for work.
Diane: Oh, wow. Long way. How are you liking the weather?
You: Honestly? Way colder than I expected.
Diane: Ha! Yeah, give it a month. It gets worse before it gets better.
You: Great. That’s exactly what I was afraid of.
Diane: Get yourself a good coat. That’s the whole secret. So, you all moved in?
You: Almost. Still need to find a grocery store nearby. Any suggestions?
Diane: There’s a good one two blocks down — next to the pharmacy. Cheaper than the one on Main.
You: Two blocks down, next to the pharmacy. Got it. Thanks, that’s really helpful.
Diane: No problem. Oh — this your floor?
You: Yeah, this is me. Good talking to you, Diane.
Diane: You too, Wei. See you around!
You: See you!
|---|---|---|
| Morning!
| You’re in 4B, right?
| I’m Diane, 4D.
| How are you liking it so far?
| Still figuring out where everything is.
| Where’d you move from? | 比 Where are you from 更准 |
| Way colder than I expected.
| Give it a month. |
| This your floor? |
| Good talking to you.
| See you around. |
| Two blocks down, next to the pharmacy. Got it.
不要在这种场合问需要长回答的问题(比如 What do you do for a living?),否则对方还没答完就得下电梯。
2. This your floor?
Yeah, this is me. Good talking to you.
3. Way colder 里的 way 是程度副词。
way 放在比较级前面表示"得多”:way better、way too expensive、way more than I thought。
聊完就说 See you around,不要顺口说 Let's have dinner sometime——美国人把这句当真的,说了不兑现会尴尬。
Devon(陌生顾客,刚搬到这片) You(常来这家店)
Devon: This line’s always like this in the morning?
You: Tell me about it. I’ve been standing here ten minutes.
Devon: Okay, so it’s not just me. Is the coffee here actually worth it?
You: I think so. The cold brew’s legit.
Devon: Good to know. I just moved to the area, so I’m still scouting.
You: Oh, where from?
Devon: Denver. Big change.
You: I bet. How do you like it so far?
Devon: Too early to tell, honestly. Ask me in a month.
You: Fair enough. What brought you out here?
Devon: Work. Same as everybody, right?
You: Ha, yeah. Same here — I moved from China a couple years ago.
Devon: Oh nice. Your English is really good, by the way.
You: Thanks, that’s nice of you to say. Still working on it.
Devon: Well, it’s working. Oh — you’re up.
You: That’s me. Nice talking to you.
Devon: You too. Enjoy the coffee.
You: You too. Good luck with the apartment hunt.
Devon: Thanks, man. See you around.

| This line’s always like this?
| Tell me about it.
| Is it worth it? | worth it 高频 |
| I just moved to the area.
| I’m still scouting.
| Where from?
| I bet. |

|---|---|---|
How are you? I'm fine, thank you, and you? | 教科书腔,真人不说 | How's it going? — Pretty good. You? |
What's your salary? What's the market rate for this kind of role? |
Where are you going? | 中式招呼,美国人会觉得被盘问 | How's your day going? |
Have you eaten? | 中式问候,直译很怪 | How's it going? |
You look fat / thin. | 评价外貌是雷区 | You look great. |
I am very boring.
No, no, my English is bad. | 否认赞美=反驳对方 | Thanks, that's nice of you to say. |
1. Tell me about it 是"我太懂了"。
Thanks, that's nice of you to say. I'm still working on it.
Nice day, huh?
Jeff(邻居,养了一条中型犬) You(养了一条两岁的狗,叫 Mochi)
Jeff: Oh, they’re gonna be at that for a while.
You: Yeah, he does this every single time. Sorry — he’s friendly, just nosy.
Jeff: No, no, she’s the same way. What’s his name?
You: Mochi. He’s about two.
Jeff: Mochi. That’s a great name. Is he a rescue?
You: Yeah, got him from a shelter downtown. You?
Jeff: Same. She was a stray, believe it or not. Took her a month to trust me.
You: Wow. She seems pretty chill now.
Jeff: She is — unless a squirrel shows up. Then it’s over.
You: Ha! Mochi’s like that with skateboards. Goes absolutely nuts.
Jeff: Oh, skateboards are the worst. Hey, do you come here a lot?
You: Pretty much every evening after work. Easier than walking him around the block.
Jeff: Smart. This place is dead during the day, but around six it gets packed.
You: I noticed. Is it like this all year?
Jeff: Summer’s nuts — everyone’s out till nine. Winter, it’s just me and the die-hards.
You: Good to know. Hey, is there a rule about the small-dog side?
Jeff: Yeah, they’re kind of strict about it. Under thirty pounds goes on the left.
You: Got it. He’s right at the line, so I never know which side to use.
Jeff: Ha, yeah, they never make it easy. Anyway, I should get her home — dinner’s waiting.
You: Same here. Good talking to you. I’m Wei, by the way.
Jeff: Jeff. See you around, Wei.
|---|---|---|
| He’s friendly, just nosy. |
| She’s the same way.
| Is he a rescue?
| Took her a month to trust me.
| She seems pretty chill.
| Goes absolutely nuts.
| Do you come here a lot? |
| It gets packed.
| it’s just me and the die-hards.
| I should get her home. |
| I’m Wei, by the way.
遛狗场景里,What's his name? 常常比 What's your name? (I'm Wei, by the way.)
2. by the way 是补一句的万能接口。
4. Anyway, I should get going
Marcus(健身房常客,一周来五次) You(一周来三次)
Marcus: Hey — you’re the guy who’s always on the rowing machine, right?
You: Uh, yeah, that’s me. Didn’t think anyone noticed.
Marcus: Oh, I notice everything. I’m here way too much.
You: Ha. How many days a week are you in here?
Marcus: Five, usually. Six if I’m feeling guilty about something.
You: Wow. I’m doing three and that already feels like a lot.
Marcus: Three’s fine, honestly. Consistency beats intensity. I’m Marcus, by the way.
You: Wei. Nice to meet you.
Marcus: You too, man. Hey, is that machine by the window still taken?
You: I think so. Someone had a towel on it like ten minutes ago.
Marcus: Ugh. Okay, leg day it is.
You: It usually clears up around seven thirty. The after-work crowd thins out fast.
Marcus: Yeah, six to seven is brutal. That’s why I switched to mornings.
You: Mornings? Man, I can barely drag myself here by eight at night.
Marcus: Ha! Whatever works. You doing the spin class on Thursday?
You: I was thinking about it. Is it any good?
Marcus: It’s brutal, but the instructor’s great. She’ll yell at you in a nice way.
You: Okay, that’s convincing. I’ll sign up.
Marcus: Do it before Wednesday — they cap it at twenty people.
You: Good tip. Thanks, man. See you around.
Marcus: Later.

Are you using this machine? Yes or no? | 语气像盘问 | Are you still using this? |
I very like this gym. | 语法错 | I really like this gym. |
You look very strong. | 夸身材容易踩线 | You've been putting in work. |
I come here three times one week. | 语序错 | I come here three times a week. |
Let's exercise together. | 太生硬,像约任务 | We should lift sometime. |
Goodbye, see you next time. | 健身房不说 next time | See you around. |
2. Is that still taken? 比 Is anyone using this?
Nope, all yours.
3. brutal
We should lift sometime You free Saturday morning?
Priya(市场部同事,见过一两次) You(数据组)
Priya: Oh hey! Wei, right? From the analytics team?
You: Yeah, hi. Priya? We met at the offsite.
Priya?
Priya: That’s me. How’s it going?
You: Pretty good. Busy week, though. You?
Priya: Same. I’ve got like three deadlines stacked on top of each other.
You: Ouch. End of quarter, huh?
Priya: End of quarter, yeah. Anyway — how was your weekend?
You: Actually really good. Went hiking up at the state park.
Priya: Oh nice. Which trail?
You: The one that goes up to the falls. Bear something?
Priya: Bear Ridge? Yeah, that one’s no joke.
You: Tell me about it. My legs are still mad at me.
Priya: Ha! Did you go with a group?
You: Just a couple friends. We grabbed lunch after — that was the best part.
Priya: That’s the only reason I hike. Where’d you eat?
You: Little diner in town. Nothing fancy, but the pancakes were amazing.
Priya: Ooh, noted. Hey — are you coming to the thing on Friday?
You: What thing?
Priya: The team happy hour. Fourth floor, five thirty. Supposed to be everybody.
You: Oh, I didn’t hear about that. Yeah, I’ll try to make it.
Priya: Do it. It’s way more fun than it sounds. Anyway, I’ve got a meeting.
You: Yeah, me too. Good running into you.
Priya: You too! See you Friday.

| End of quarter, huh? |
| How was your weekend? |
| That one’s no joke.

| Nothing fancy. |

| I’ll try to make it.
| Good running into you.
I've got a meeting 就是结束信号,接一句 Good running into you 就行。
2. the thing on Friday
3. I'll try to make it 是礼貌的"不一定去"。
Hey, do you have five minutes this week?

Crazy weather today, huh?
2. How are you?
Great, thanks! 比 Fine. 好十倍;Pretty good, busy though.
或 How about you?。
