(Go down two blocks, hang a left, it's on your right past the light),你一个词没跟上,整段就废了。

Two blocks 就是"过两个路口";past the traffic light 是"过了红绿灯";next to the bank / across from the CVS 是"银行旁边"“CVS 对面”。

Do you know where the nearest pharmacy is?。 Sorry, I'm not from around here.

Go down this street two blocks.
Hang a left at the light.
It’s on your right, past the 7-Eleven.
It’s across from the bank.
It’s about halfway down the block.
You can’t miss it.

开场一定先说 Excuse me,直接问 Where is...? (So — straight two blocks, then a left on Main?),这是唯一能当场纠错的机会;商场和大楼里的洗手间常年在美食广场或电梯旁边,进门先找 directory(楼层导览图)最省事;开车问路要问"第几个红绿灯、几个街区、哪条高速",因为这些才是美国司机脑子里的坐标。

You(找路的行人,手机刚没电) Stranger(路人,牵着狗的中年人)

You: Excuse me — sorry to bother you.

Stranger: You’re fine. What’s up?

You: I’m trying to find the post office. Am I anywhere near it?

Stranger: The post office? Yeah, you’re like two blocks away.

You: Oh, thank God. My phone just died on me.

Stranger: Ha. Okay, so — you see that light up there?

You: The one by the bank?

Stranger: Yeah. Go straight till you hit it, then hang a left on Main.

You: Straight to the light, left on Main.

Stranger: Yep. Then it’s on your right, just past the 7-Eleven.

You: On the right, past the 7-Eleven.

Stranger: Big brick building with a flag out front. You can’t miss it.

You: Great. Is it a long walk?

Stranger: Five minutes, tops. It’s right there.

You: Perfect. Oh — do you know what time they close?

Stranger: Hmm. I wanna say five? Weekdays, anyway.

You: Okay. It’s almost four, so I should be fine.

Stranger: Oh — hey. You’re not looking for the one on Third, are you?

You: Uh… maybe? That’s what my phone said before it died.

Stranger: Yeah, don’t. That one closed last year.

You: Oh. Okay, good to know.

Stranger: This one’s the Main Street one. You’re good.

You: Got it. So — straight to the light, left on Main, right-hand side past the 7-Eleven.

Stranger: That’s it.

You: Thank you so much. You saved me.

Stranger: No problem. Good luck!

You: Thanks. Have a good one.

Stranger: You too.

Go straight till you hit it.

Where is the way to the post office? How do I get to the post office?
Please tell me how to go. Could you tell me how to get there?
I want to ask a way.“问路"不能直译Excuse me — could I ask you something?
Go along this road.along Go down this street. / Go straight.
Turn left at the first crossing.crossing 美国人一般说 intersectionTake a left at the first intersection.
Left hand side. On your left. / On the left.
It's very near, you can walk. It's within walking distance.
How many minutes walk? How long does it take to walk there?
Please say again, I can't remember.太直白Sorry, could you run that by me again?

So — straight two blocks, then a left on Main, and it's on my right past the light? (No, no — a right on Main)。

2. hang a left / hang a right 是极常见的口语。

意思就是 take a left / take a right,街上被陌生人这么说是常态。同类的还有 hook a left(更南方)、make a left。

3. 说 on your right,不要说 right hand side。

指路最常用的是 on your right / on your left,on the right-hand side / on the left-hand side 也完全是标准说法(注意有连字符、前面有 the)。 It's in right side

Stranger(问路的人,拎着购物袋) You(刚搬来两个月)

Stranger: Excuse me — do you know where the nearest pharmacy is?

You: Um. The one on Main?

Stranger: I don’t know. I just moved here, honestly.

You: Oh, me too. Like two months ago.

Stranger: Ha. So we’re both lost.

You: Pretty much. But I think I’ve walked past one. Hold on.

Stranger: Sure, take your time.

You: Let me pull it up. … Okay, there’s one on Main and Third. Is that the one you mean?

Stranger: Maybe? I just need to pick up a prescription.

You: Okay, well — from here you’d go down this street two blocks and take a right at the light.

Stranger: Two blocks, right at the light.

You: Yeah. Then it’s on your left, next to the bank. That’s what the map says, anyway.

Stranger: On the left, next to the bank. Got it.

You: I will say — I’m not a hundred percent sure it’s still open.

Stranger: Oh?

You: I think that one might be a… what do you call it. A specialty pharmacy? Not a regular one.

Stranger: Hmm. That’s a problem. I need a regular one.

You: Yeah. Honestly, I’d check on your phone before you walk over there.

Stranger: Yeah, I will. Thanks for being honest.

You: Sorry I can’t be more help.

Stranger: No, that’s way more than nothing.

You: Oh — wait. There’s a CVS inside the Target up that way. That one’s real, I’ve been in it.

Stranger: Oh, perfect. Where’s Target?

You: Straight up this way, like three blocks. You’ll see the sign.

Stranger: Three blocks that way. Okay.

You: The pharmacy’s in the back, past the groceries.

Stranger: You’re a lifesaver. Thank you.

You: No problem. Good luck.

I don't know the road. Sorry, I'm not from around here.
I am new here, I don't know. I just moved here, but let me see if I can help.
Maybe is that way. I think it's that way.
I am not sure, you ask others. I'm not sure — I'd check on your phone.
Sorry, I can't help you. Sorry I can't be more help — good luck.
North is that direction. North's that way.
Go straight, then left, then straight, then right, then...

Sorry, I'm not from around here. Let me pull it up.

I think… / I'm not a hundred percent sure / That's what the map says, anyway

That one's real, I've been in it(那个我进去过)和猜测的语气完全不同。

4. Sorry I can't be more help

That's more than I knew。

You(顾客,第一次来这个商场) Clerk(服装店店员)

You: Hi — sorry, quick question.

Clerk: Sure, what’s up?

You: Where are the restrooms?

Clerk: Ours are in the back, but the mall ones are nicer. Second floor, by the food court.

You: Oh, good. How do I get up there?

Clerk: Take the escalator right outside our door — it’s just past the kiosk. Then go left at the top.

You: Escalator, then left. Got it.

Clerk: Yeah. You’ll see the signs. There’s a family restroom up there too, if you need one.

You: Perfect, thanks. And while I’m up there — is there a phone store in this mall?

Clerk: Like a phone case place, or an actual carrier?

You: Carrier. I need a SIM card.

Clerk: Oh. There’s an AT&T on the first floor, other end. Past the Macy’s.

You: Past Macy’s, first floor.

Clerk: Yeah. Or, honestly, the Verizon store’s closer — it’s right next to the movie theater.

You: Which one’s cheaper for a prepaid plan, do you know?

Clerk: No idea. I just know where they are.

(laughs) You: Fair enough.

Clerk: Ha. Yeah, I’m not gonna make up an answer.

You: Appreciate that. Okay — so escalator up for the restroom, AT&T downstairs past Macy’s.

Clerk: You got it.

You: Hey, one more — do you validate parking?

Clerk: We do, but only if you buy something. Over twenty bucks.

You: Oh. Okay, I might come back for a shirt then.

Clerk: Do that. Bring the receipt up here, I’ll stamp it.

You: Great. Thanks a lot.

Clerk: No problem. Have fun.

Where is the WC? WCWhere are the restrooms?
Where is toilet? Where's the restroom?
I want to go to washroom. Where are the restrooms?
Which floor is it? What floor are the restrooms on?
Lift or stairs?lift 是英式Elevator or stairs?
How can I go to second floor? How do I get to the second floor?
Is there free parking? Do you validate parking?

开口问就用 Where are the restrooms?(复数最保险,因为通常是男女两间)。

Take the elevator to the third floor(坐电梯上三楼)、Take the escalator up(坐扶梯上去)。

4. Do you validate parking?

No idea.、I'm not sure.、I don't wanna guess. I'm not gonna make up an answer——这恰恰是负责,不要理解成敷衍。

You(开车的人,外地来参加婚礼) Associate(加油站便利店店员)

You: Hi — sorry, I’m gonna pump in a second, but can I ask you something first?

Associate: Yeah, go ahead.

You: I’m trying to get to the airport. Am I anywhere close?

Associate: The airport? Uh — you’re headed the wrong way, buddy.

You: Oh no. How bad is it?

Associate: Not bad. Like fifteen minutes if you turn around.

You: Okay. That’s not terrible.

Associate: So — you’re gonna go out of here and take a right on Route 9.

You: Right on 9.

Associate: Then about three miles. You’ll hit a light — that’s the on-ramp.

You: So the on-ramp’s at the light?

Associate: Yeah. Take a left onto the highway. That’s 95 north.

You: 95 north. Then I just follow the signs for the airport?

Associate: Yep. It’s like four exits down. You’ll see ’em. Where you headed?

You: Chicago. My sister’s getting married.

Associate: Oh, nice. Congrats. I’d leave extra time, though — that highway backs up around five.

You: Good to know. It’s 2:30 now and my flight’s at six.

Associate: You’ll be fine. You paying cash or card?

You: Cash. Do I pay at the pump, or in here?

Associate: Card works at the pump. Cash, you gotta come in first and prepay.

You: Okay. How much for a full tank, roughly?

Associate: Regular’s three forty-nine. A tank’s probably fifty, sixty bucks.

You: Let me do forty, then. Pump four, right?

Associate: Pump four’s open. Come back in when you’re done, I’ll get you your change.

You: Thanks. And — left at the light onto 95 north?

Associate: Left at the light onto 95 north. You got it.

You: You saved me. Thanks a lot.

Associate: No problem. Drive safe.

street/striːt/ /strit/街
distance/ˈdɪstənts/ /ˈdɪstəns/距离

(I want forty on pump four),加完再回来找零。

2. regular

美国加油站一般有三种:regular(87 号)、plus / midgrade(89 号)、premium(91–93 号)。租来的车加 regular 就行,说 Fill it up, regular 或者直接按机器上的 regular 按钮。

It's four exits down 就是"过四个出口"。

4. back up 是"堵车",blocked 不是。

The highway backs up around five = 五点前后那条高速开始堵。

Okay — right on 9. Then what?

Excuse me?↗ Am I anywhere near it?↗ 尾音上扬听起来是请求;降调就变成质问。

LEFT at the LIGHT、on your RIGHT。

3. on your right 连读成一个词。

实际听起来像 on-yer-right,your 几乎缩成 /jər/。同理 past the light 听起来像 pas-the-light。

4. You can't miss it 的 can’t 要重读。

You CAN'T miss it——重音在 can’t 上,意思是"绝对找不到才怪"。如果 can’t 弱读,整句会变得含糊,听起来像 You can miss it,意思正好反过来。
