这一篇拆成四个细化场景：银行开户、ATM 取现与柜台存取转账、去邮局寄包裹回中国、包裹投递失败去邮局问再加寄信买邮票。到美国之后，银行账户和邮局是两件必须尽快搞定的事——发工资要 direct deposit，交房租要转账；往国内寄东西则要面对报关单和一整排看不懂的运费档位。

先分清两类账户，这是美国银行和中国最大的差别。 checking account（支票账户）是日常消费用的，刷卡、付账单、收工资都走它，几乎没有利息，虽然叫"支票账户"但基本没人开支票了；savings account（储蓄账户）用来存钱，有一点利息。“每月最多取 6 次"这条联邦强制规定在 2020 年已经取消，但不少银行仍自己设限、超了收费，所以开户时问一句 Any limit on withdrawals? 最稳。日常花销走 checking，闲钱放 savings。

开户要带什么：带照片的证件 + 地址证明 + 社会安全号（SSN）。 护照或驾照都可以当证件；地址证明是租房合同、水电账单、银行对账单这类能证明你住哪的东西。没有 SSN 也可能开得成——不少银行接受护照加地址证明先开，之后补 SSN 或 ITIN，但各家政策不同，去之前直接问一句 Can I open an account without a Social Security number? 最稳。

开户时银行会给两个号码，一定要分清： routing number 是九位的银行代码，同一个银行所有客户都一样，用来收付款；account number 是你个人的账号，每个人的都不一样。填 direct deposit 表格和网上付房租时两个都要，填错了钱会退回或者卡住。

日常用钱的方式也和中国不同。 刷卡、手机支付是绝对主流，现金用得少。个人之间转账最常用 Zelle（大银行自带的，即时到账、免费，只要对方手机号或邮箱），年轻人也用 Venmo 和 Cash App。用 ATM 有个坑：在本行 ATM 取钱免费，用别家银行的 ATM 往往两边都收手续费，所以先看清自己卡上印的 ATM 网络标志。

邮局（USPS）这边，记住三条就够用。 第一，寄国际包裹要填报关单（customs form），写清里面是什么、值多少钱——美国的快递公司还有 UPS 和 FedEx，更快更贵，寄文件和大件才考虑。第二，分清运费档位：寄中国最常用的是 First-Class Package International（最便宜、最慢）和 Priority Mail International（贵一截、快一截），柜台会直接给你报两档让你选。第三，一定要拿跟踪号（tracking number），包裹丢了、卡在海关了都靠它查。

往中国寄东西还有两个实际细节。 申报价值要如实填——自用的旧东西按折旧后的实际价值写，确实送人的礼物才写 gift，既别为了"显得贵重"往高里报，也别故意低报（低报属于瞒报，被查到会退运、罚款甚至销毁）。因为中国海关对个人邮寄进境物品有免税额，超出部分可能向收件人征税，报多少直接影响到收件人的麻烦程度。地址最好用中文再写一遍，加上收件人手机号，因为国内投递靠的是中文地址，拼音写得再对也可能卡住。

第一次去银行开户

1. What brings you in today? 是"今天来办什么"的地道问法。

银行、诊所、店里都这么问，回答直接说目的就行：I need to open an account. / I have an appointment at two. 不用寒暄铺垫。

2. 地址一定要写全，单元号不能省。

美国地址是从小到大：门牌号 → 街名 → 单元号 → 城市 → 州缩写 → 邮编。银行、快递、网购全都认这个格式，少一个 Apt 4B 卡就可能被退回来。这也是为什么柜员会追问 with the unit number?

3. debit card 和 credit card 一定要说清楚。

debit card 直接扣 checking 账户里的钱；credit card 是先消费后还款。刷卡时机器常问 Debit or credit?——这里问的是走哪条清算通道，不是问你有没有信用卡，借记卡选 credit 也能刷过，只是不用输密码。搞混了容易当场卡住。

4. 别在别家银行的 ATM 上随便取钱。

本行 ATM 免费；用外行的 ATM，你的银行可能收一笔、机器所属银行再收一笔。取之前看清 ATM 上的网络标志（Allpoint、MoneyPass 之类），或者干脆多走两步去本行网点。

1. 存款机不是每台都能用，旧钞最容易卡。

ATM 存款对纸币平整度要求高，皱了、破了、太旧的会被退出来。退出来不等于丢钱，机器会打出一张凭条，拿着凭条去柜台说明情况就行。金额大的话直接去柜台最快。

2. How would you like it? 问的是面额。

标准回答是 twenties（二十）、tens（十块）、fives（五块），或者 in twenties, please。想要硬币说 in quarters（25 分）、in ones（一块）。别回答 small money，英文里没这个说法。

3. Zelle 转出去就撤不回来。

它和信用卡不一样，没有拒付机制，收款人名字搞错也追不回。银行柜员提醒 check the name twice 是真心的。第一次给新房东、新室友转钱，先转一块钱试一下，比事后哭有用。

4. 支票在美国还没绝迹。

个人之间、部分小雇主、退税还会给纸质支票。存支票要在背面签名（这叫 endorse），再写 For deposit only 加账号更安全。手机 App 也能拍照存，叫 mobile deposit，一般有小额上限。

4. USPS、UPS、FedEx 怎么选。

USPS 最便宜，寄回中国首选，缺点是慢、网点服务一般；UPS 和 FedEx 快得多也贵得多，寄文件、贵重物品、赶时间才用。三家都能在线打印面单上门取件，但寄国际件到中国，USPS 的性价比基本没有对手。

一是带着证件和单子直接去邮局取（最快，通常当天就能拿到）；二是约重新投递，官网有 redelivery 表格，也能在单子背面填好放回邮箱。需要签收的东西（银行卡、证件、贵重物品）邮递员不会放门口，这是规矩，不是针对你。

2. 国际平信贵，但没有跟踪号。

寄中国的普通信件按国际邮资算，比境内贵；平信（first-class letter）没有跟踪号，也查不到。要跟踪、要签收，就得当包裹寄，还要填报关单。所以寄贺卡、照片这类东西，直接用平信最划算，但别夹现金和有价证券。

3. 邮票可以散着买，也可以让柜台贴好。

Do you want them on the envelope, or loose? 是柜台常问的。让柜台贴好最省事，寄信前直接扔进街边的蓝色邮筒（blue box）就行。邮局的营业时间通常比银行短，周六下午很多网点关门。

4. 换地址、代收这两件事要提前说。

搬家之后要在 USPS 官网做 change of address，否则信件会一直寄到旧地址。短期不在家可以申请 hold mail（暂停投递，最多 30 天），回来一起拿。让邻居代收的话，写 care of（c/o）加对方名字，例如 c/o Li Wei, 1420 Fillmore St, Apt 6。

1. checking 和 savings 的尾音要分清。

checking 是 /ˈtʃekɪŋ/，savings 是 /ˈseɪvɪŋz/，savings 结尾有 z 音。开户时把 savings 说成 saving，柜员可能会问一句 Savings?

2. routing number 里的 routing 读 /ˈraʊtɪŋ/。

不是 /ˈruːtɪŋ/。这个词在开户和填 direct deposit 表格时一定会听到，听错会以为自己没听清。

3. Priority 的重音在第一个音节。

USPS 柜台报档位时会说 PRI-ority，重音在前。听不懂就说 Sorry, the cheaper one?，让对方重复，比点头假装听懂安全得多。

4. 报金额时美国人常省略 dollars。

5. Can I…? 在柜台前要读升调。

句尾上扬才礼貌。Can I get a tracking number? 如果降调念完，听起来像在质问对方"你到底给不给我"。这是中文母语者最容易忽略的语调问题。
